Ann Cook Littlewood

Martin Littlewood (1817-1898) is my great-great-great grandfather. He had three wives:
Sarah Elizabeth Muir (1818-1891)
Annie Parkes (1837-1906)
Ann Cook (who died in 1889)

Shown here are Annie and Martin's headstones.

Of the three wives, the one I am most interested in is Ann -- my great-great-great grandmother. If anyone comes along this blog, and has more information, please send it my way.

Okay, here is what I know:
  • Ann is most commonly listed on Genealogy Sites as being from Dobcross, Saddleworth, Yorkshire, England. Some people believe she is from Market Rason, Linconshire, England. There are some sources that even claim she was born in Utah, but since there were no white settlers in Utah at the estimated time of her birth, I find this highly unlikely.
  • Her birth year is listed differently by different sources: Some say 1818, others say 1821, 1828, 1830, 1832, and 1834. The 1860 census shows her age as being 37, which puts her birth year approximately 1823. The 1870 census puts her birth at approximately 1822. The 1880 census suggests her birth year was 1821.
  • We have no names for parents, but because of census information, we at least can say positively that they were from England.
  • The one date that all the sources seem to have in common is her death date: June 1889. It is probable that she died in Meadow, Millard County, Utah but I can find no evidence of this.
  • Ann had three children: George Edward Littlewood (born 1854) , Mary Ann Littlewood (born 1856), and Albina Cook Littlewood (born 1859).
  • She was said to have married Martin Littlewood in Sugar House, Utah in 1849 but I know for sure that she was sealed to him on March 11 1856.
  • One census I saw suggested that Ann could neither read nor write.
